Antonia Glynne Jones

  • I was born and raised in Africa and consequently, have a passionate affinity with untamed vistas whether desert or sea. I define spaces through colour and texture. My work draws on my emotional and physical reaction to particular times, places and events, and I combine observation, drawing and my personal feelings to create artworks that are filled with directness, immediacy and vibrant energy

    • CAPE CORNWALL V
    • This painting is oil on canvas, 25 x 30 centimetres and it is based on a very wet and windy visit to Cape Cornwall last year in October, with an emphasis on the slipway, the sea and the surrounding landscape.
    • SUMMER LANDSCAPE
    • This picture is oil on canvas 50 x 50 centimetres, and is based on the landscape when the blossom is out, and the sun is shining and the heat is beginning to rise in the long summer days.
    • AERIAL BOUNDARIES
    • This painting is an oil on canvas, 30 x 30 centimetres and is based on aerial perspectives of harbours in Cornwall and the Cornish landscape. I go to Cornwall for a couple of weeks in May and October for full on immersive painting courses. This means a lot of my work is based on the amazing light, awesome scenery and harbours, which add a wonderful gritty element to the scene.
    • CORNISH SEASCAPE ABSTRACTED
    • This painting is an oil on canvas, 50 x 50 centimetres, and is based on the landscape and sea around the Cornish harbour of Port Isaac (where Doc Martin was filmed). The wonderful Cornish light, the rolling hills, cliffs, the harbour and of course the piers all influence the juxtaposition of from, colour, movement and mark making in the painting.
    • AFTER THE RAIN (Trebarwith Strand)
    • This painting is oil on canvas, 50 x 50 centimetres and is based on a beautiful tiny village called Trebarwith Strand in Cornwall with a tiny beach (when the tide is out) and serious rocks and cliffs when the tide is in. This painting was done in response to a very wet and stormy visit.
    • CIRCLES IN THE SAND
    • This painting is oil on canvas, 80 x 60 centimetres and is based on playing in the sand, sea, the tide coming in and windy weather.
    • CORNISH LANDSCAPE
    • This painting is oil on canvas, 50 x 50 centimetres and is based on numerous painting trips to Cornwall and in particular the working double harbour of Portheleven.
    • A MOMENT OF CHAOS
    • This painting is oil on canvas, 75 x 46 centimetres, and was originally based on objects in the landscape and studio, but then became about chaos and the wind and weather and movement.
